Key information

Acer Beni Maiko is a small, bushy Japanese maple that brings real colour to a terrace or courtyard. In spring its new leaves open a brilliant red, softening to pink and then a reddish green through summer. In autumn they turn shades of yellow, orange and deep red before falling. It stays compact, reaching around 1 to 1.5m, which makes it one of the best acers for growing in a pot, on a balcony or within a border.

Top Tip

Grow Acer Beni Maiko in a pot so you can move it into the spotlight in spring, when the red leaves are at their brightest. Keep it out of strong afternoon sun to protect the young leaves from scorching.
