Bring the Outside In: Nature-Inspired Shades for Seamless Spaces

There’s something about nature’s palette — soft greens, earthy clays, sun-warmed neutrals — that just feels right. At COAT, they have bottled that feeling into a curated collection of paints designed to flow effortlessly between indoors and out. Read on to find out more

Whether you’re refreshing a garden room, updating a hallway, or giving your front door a facelift, these eight nature-inspired shades bring harmony and calm — with a modern edge.

All are available in our ultra-durable Exterior Eggshell for outdoor projects, and our signature Flat Matt for interiors (along with four other finishes) — so you can keep the look cohesive, wherever you’re painting.

1. Ode to Toad — Light Olive Green

A fresh, leafy olive that feels straight from the hedgerow. Ode to Toad is soft and grounding, making it ideal for garden-facing rooms, kitchen cabinetry, or exterior woodwork. It pairs beautifully with natural textures and soft neutrals.

Try it with: pale wood, linen upholstery, and terracotta planters.

2. Sonder — Mid Sage Green

Sonder is a mid-toned sage with a subtle grey undertone — calm, sophisticated, and endlessly versatile. It works wonders in living spaces, bedrooms, or on exterior doors, offering a gentle nod to nature without overpowering.

Try it with: warm whites, brushed brass, and leafy houseplants.

3. Retrograde — Deep Green

A rich, moody green with grey undertones, Retrograde brings depth and drama. Perfect for feature walls, cabinetry, or garden fencing, it creates a bold statement while remaining rooted in nature.

Try it with: matte black fixtures, natural stone, and soft lighting.

4. Reverie — Light Earthy Pink

Reverie is a soft, earthy pink that exudes warmth and tranquility. Ideal for bedrooms, bathrooms, or outdoor seating areas, it adds a touch of romance without being overly sweet.

Try it with: warm woods, woven textiles, and dried florals.

5. Rooted — Mid Beige

Rooted is a grounded, mid-tone beige that offers a neutral backdrop with character. Its earthy undertones make it suitable for both interiors and exteriors, providing a cohesive flow throughout your space.

Try it with: olive greens, soft whites, and natural fibers.

6. Percolate — Beige Brown

Percolate is a warm beige-brown that brings a sense of cosiness and comfort. Use it in living rooms, studies, or on exterior walls to create an inviting atmosphere that feels both modern and timeless.

Try it with: cream accents, leather furnishings, and indoor plants.

7. Cheap Soufflé — Cream Yellow

A soft, buttery yellow, Cheap Soufflé adds a gentle glow to any space. It's perfect for kitchens, hallways, or garden sheds, bringing a touch of sunshine without overwhelming.

Try it with: light woods, white ceramics, and greenery.

8. Camber — Pale Beige

Camber is a pale beige with subtle warmth, offering a clean and serene backdrop. Ideal for open-plan areas, bedrooms, or exterior trims, it complements a variety of styles and color schemes.

Try it with: soft greys, muted blues, and natural textures.

A Note on Finish:

All these shades are available in COAT’s Flat Matt for interiors and Exterior Eggshell for outdoor projects. Both finishes are water-based, low-VOC, and designed to withstand the elements — ensuring your spaces look fresh season after season.
